Exceptional Racket Players – Fiona Wilson (Badminton)

  • The greatest ever Scottish deaf women’s badminton player in history. Totally unrivalled.
  • Gained 4 medals in 3 Deaflympics: 1985 Los Angeles, USA (2 Bronze), 1989 Christchurch, NZ (1 Gold), 1993 Sofia, Bulgaria (1 Bronze). Narrowly edged out on two more medals.
  • Won numerous badminton titles (far too many to mention) in British & Scottish National Deaf competitions in three disciples – singles, women and mixed doubles.
  • Her reputation grew that she was awarded the top Sportsperson Cup by Glasgow City Council.
  • A wonderful competitive player with a strong determination to win matches yet such a pleasant and popular personality off the court.
