Exceptional Racket Players – Fiona Wilson (Badminton)
The greatest ever Scottish deaf women’s badminton player in history. Totally unrivalled.
Gained 4 medals in 3 Deaflympics: 1985 Los Angeles, USA (2 Bronze), 1989 Christchurch, NZ (1 Gold), 1993 Sofia, Bulgaria (1 Bronze). Narrowly edged out on two more medals.
Won numerous badminton titles (far too many to mention) in British & Scottish National Deaf competitions in three disciples – singles, women and mixed doubles.
Her reputation grew that she was awarded the top Sportsperson Cup by Glasgow City Council.
A wonderful competitive player with a strong determination to win matches yet such a pleasant and popular personality off the court.
