Exceptional Racket Players – John "Paddy" Corcoran (Tennis)

  • An amazing athlete – he took part in SIX Deaflympics spanning 20 years from 1953 to 1973: Brussels 1953, Milan 1957, Helsinki 1961, Washington 1965, Belgrade 1969 and Malmo 1973. In each, he covered all 3 tennis disciples – singles, men’s doubles mixed doubles. The number of matches he played is impossible to count.
  • Won 2 Gold and 3 Silver Medals – the men’s doubles was his best winning 4 medals.
  • Captured Gold in the Men’s Doubles at the Dresse Cup, Naples, Italy 1962.
  • Won several National tennis titles in all 3 events.
  • A brilliant footballer – he played for Barnet FC, Victoria Deaf, Clapham Deaf and London Deaf.
